Final Sanding the 2 guitars and applying shellac
My favorite part of building custom instruments is putting on that first coat of finish. There is nothing quite like it. After taking a few blocks of wood, milling them down, shaping, bending and sanding them till they resemble a guitar or ukulele, you finally get to that incredible moment. Something about the finish turns these this wooden boxes into instruments.
Here are the guitars final sanded and ready for taping and finishing.
After the first coat of shellac, you can see the hidden beauty of the koa and ziricote. The guitar’s fretboards, bridge and tongue of the fretboard are taped of for finishing.
Here are the guitar backs and necks after their first wash coat of shellac. Next the guitars will be pore filled and then get one more coat of shellac before moving onto the lacquer.
Look at how this wild master grade koa pops with just a little bit of finish on it.
The two guitar headstock logos have a really nice contrast against the ebony with a coat of finish on them.
What little free time I have, I like to spend on the ocean. I figured why not throw my logo on the back of my paddle.
